Dear Student and Family,
Welcome to 8th Grade English Language Arts! I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you and I'm looking forward to a happy and productive school year.
This year some of the major areas of focus will be:
   Narrative Reading/Writing: Stories and Literary Analysis Task Essay
   Informational/Non Fiction/Everyday Text Reading/Expository Writing: Prose Constructed Essay
   Persuasive/Argumentative Reading and Writing
   Vocabulary Usage
   Grammar
   Intense PARCC Prep

Please have your child bring the following supplies to school before September 11, 2017:
   Notebook (3 subject)
   Marble Notebook (journal)
   Loose leaf paper
   Folders
   Pens

Homework Policy

Homework is given daily.  It will take about 30 minutes to complete. All homework/classwork should be completed and handed in on time. All assignments are due on TIME!!! When a student is absent from school he or she has 1 week to make up any missed assignments - classwork may be done at home and tests will be given after school. When an assignment is late, a predetermined number is deducted for each day the work is late up to 1 week.

Grading Policy

At the end of a marking cycle assignments are weighted with the following percentages in the various academic areas:
   Class Assignment - 20% Minimum 16 assignments per cycle
   Test - 30% Minimum 4 per cycle
   Quiz - 15% Minimum 4 per cycle
   Project - 25% Minimum 3 per cycle
   HomeWork - 10% Minimum 16 assignments per cycle
